Bagged lunch

When you drive a commercial truck it’s only natural to grab a bite on the go, which usually means fast food. There’s nothing wrong with indulging every once and awhile, but eventually burgers and fries will take their toll on your health. Truck drivers know this all too well - when you’re in a truck cab for eight or more hours a day, it’s hard to fit in time to exercise and burn off those fast food calories.

So, what’s a trucker to do? We’ve got you covered. Read our blog for tips on how you can make easy, healthy, delicious meals that are easy to take with you on the road.

Breakfast for Truck Drivers

While egg McMuffins are tasty, they’re also a breakfast you can’t eat every day. A good breakfast will help you feel energized. It doesn’t take much; pickup some oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, cheese, nuts, etc. Hard boil a couple of eggs and bring those with you, too. All of these things are tasty, healthy, and are a great way to start the day and you can eat them while on the go.

Lunch, Dinner, Both?

Long days are common for truck drivers and sometimes you end up eating at odd times. Are you eating lunch at 3 p.m.? You’re not alone. For a meal that really fills you up when your stomach is empty, there are lots of options for you that are easy to prepare ahead of time. A slow cooker is a trucker’s best friend. Chili, chowders, and stews don’t take a lot of prep time and you can cook them overnight in your slow cooker. They’re also easy to personalize, so have some fun with the ingredients when making them. You can find all sorts of sites online that provide easy-to-follow recipes.

All About Balance

Eating well is all about balance and being realistic. Start by making and bringing your own meals 2-3 days per week. We’re all human and will eat fast food, so don’t get mad at yourself for visiting Burger King here and there - just make sure it’s not every day. Once you’re successfully making your own meals a few times a week, try to add one more day each month. Eventually, you’ll be eating delicious, awesome food pretty much all the time and saving lots of money since you’re not buying burgers and fries every day.
