Simple tips to keep your Hino truck healthy at all times

Check engine oil

Just like with your own health where you would perform regular check ups and maintain a level of awareness of small changes in your physical condition, the same concept applies when it comes to taking proper care of your vehicle. With "productive assets" such as trucks, Hino Motors Canada recommends performing daily inspections in order to be able to understand your vehicle's current condition, and to replace consumables such as oils whenever necessary both as a safety precaution and to ensure your truck is running at optimal performance.

With engine oil being the blood of the vehicle that lubricates the interior and protects it from contaminants, overlooking simple engine oil maintenance will slowly but surely cause premature engine breakdown as well as premature wear of multiple components, which is why truck operators should *always* be checking to see if the engine oil is lower than spec or if the oil is dirty. Proper engine oil maintenance is fundamental to ensuring you're able to run your engine smoothly and keep things cool, so make sure you're changing your oil every 5,000 km, or as recommended in your Driver's Manual.

In addition to keeping your truck lubricated at all times, Hino Canada recommends replacing the engine oil filter each time you change your engine's oil. The engine oil filter is what removes the contaminants, so if this doesn't get replaced on a regular basis ground particulates and carbon will accumulate and can cause the filter to clog. Unfiltered contaminants can eventually work to damage the engine, therefore it's important to replace the filter regularly so that it doesn't lose its ability to filter out all the impurities that accumulate each time you hit the road.

Another key consumable to replace on the regular is your Engine Coolant, which functions to absorb and release heat in the radiator as well as prevent corrosion on internal metal parts that comrprise the cooling system and prevent freezing during the cold winter months. If the concentration of coolant declines or becomes degraded, this can cause your truck to overheat, cause corrosion in the cooling system, or damage the radiator, so be sure to make sure your coolant volume is up to par the next time you service your truck for routine maintenance.

With proper daily inspections and preventative maintenence, not only will you extend the life of your truck and enhance safety, you are also protecting your profits from the potential loss that could be caused by accidents and breakdowns. Check the Driver's Manual and Daily Inspection Sheet of your truck for checking engine oil, engine startup, coolant, tire air pressure and other daily recommended procedures. If you don't have one or can't find it, contact your certified local truck dealership such as Somerville Hino, located in North York near Toronto, ON.
