Hino Motors is set to exhibit six of its vehicles at the 44th annual Tokyo Motor Show this October 29th to November 8th, including the world-premiere of three vehicle models that boast advanced environmental and safety technologies.

The manufacturer of commercial vehicles and diesel engines has recently announced that its theme for the international exhibit will be: "Delivering your dreams. Our Passions." Because together with people and objects, Hino's vehicles transport our passions & dreams and help support people's lives.

The three new innovations to be showcased include a Fuel Cell Bus (a new concept model currently being trialed), the Hino Profia Hybrid (a heavy-duty hybrid truck) and the Hino Dutro Hybrid (a light-duty truck) which comes equipped with an advanced collision damage reduction brake system.

1. Fuel Cell Bus

The Toyota-Hino bus for public transport is powered by hydrogen fuel with zero CO2 emissions and an external power supply function. It's equipped with two fuel cell stacks, eight high-pressure hydrogen tanks and two motors for providing increased output. It also uses the Toyota Fuel Cell System which integrates fuel cell technology with hybrid technology for superior environmental performance while driving.

A fuel cell vehicle generates electricity to power a motor through the chemical reaction between hydrogen and oxygen, making it an environmentally-friendly energy source. From a universal design perspective, the technological development of Fuel Cell Buses represents a major step forward in the goal to move towards becoming a more hydrogen-based society, and Hino has its expectations set on making zero-emission fuel cell buses the new standard for the public transportation system.

2. Hino Profia Hybrid

This heavy-duty hybrid truck boasts the world's first hybrid refrigeration system which doesn't require use of the main engine power or auxiliary engine. It instead uses a new system that directs all energy generated from the hybrid unit to the new electric refrigeration system.

According to Hino and Denso: “Compared with those having the main engine-driven compressor system, the new truck can operate the refrigeration compressor at a constant rotational speed using the energy supplied from the hybrid system, which stabilizes the refrigeration performance and quality regardless if the truck is moving or stopped.”

And since no auxiliary power plant is required thanks to the new hybrid system, Hino and Denso approximate a 150kg weight reduction compared to with a traditional system. And with various features that are designed to decrease air resistance along with a heat recovery power generation system, Hino's latest hybrid truck houses a wide range of technology that work to improve fuel efficiency.

3. Hino Dutro Hybrid

Hino's best-selling light-duty hybrid truck is now fitted with a newly evolved collision damage reduction brake system that helps truck drivers to avoid rear-end collisions via collision avoidance technology. With this improved new safety feature in place, Hino can proudly promote this eco-friendly vehicle as being the top choice amongst light-duty trucks for urban travel.

The other three vehicles Hino plans to showcase at the Tokyo Big Sight convention hall include the Hino S’elega (a commercially available tour bus) and the latest overseas models of the Hino 500 Series. Aside from exhibits of actual vehicles, Hino will also be presenting engine exhibits (A09C engine, A05C engine) and technical exhibits that promote Hino's ambitious efforts towards producing state-of-the-art technology for safety and the environment.
