Put a Little Diesel in Your Hino

Many commercial truck owners use diesel fuel to operate their fleets. Despite being the go-to fuel source for these large vehicles, surprisingly, besides the fact that it’s a bit cheaper at the pumps, not many drivers are familiar with the function and overall performance quality of diesel fuel compared to standard gasolines. Diesel engines work like other internal combustion engines. A series of combustion chambers. The fuel is sprayed throughout these chambers through fuel injectors, and when the air gets hot enough, mini explosions take place, thus powering your vehicle. Diesel fuel comes in a variety of types, but the two most common ones are known as Diesel #1, or 1-D, and Diesel #2, or 2-D. Diesel #2 is the standard fuel that you will use to fill your engine at the pumps. Just like gasoline, diesel fuels have their pros and cons. But, when it comes to the trucking market, we’ll show you why diesel ranks supreme in the eyes of Hino.

Expensive Engine, Better Fuel Economy

Diesel engines are generally more expensive to manufacture than your typical gas powered engine because they require additional durability to withstand pressure tests of high-compression diesel combustion. Therefore, additional exhaust treatments are needed to keep your air emissions clean, and not spew the black smoke that many associate with a diesel engine. Although diesel engines are slightly more expensive to produce, the end result is that you save on fuel.

Advances in diesel technology have allowed diesel fuels to be mixed at the pumps in order to serve you better economically. For example, since diesel can freeze up in the winter time, many gas stations have designed diesel blends that incorporate a mix of 1-D and 2-D into your tank to ensure that you maximize your fuel economy. Diesel power is becoming increasingly popular and there is no shortage of supply for the trucking market. It’s no secret that gasoline engines fall short on fuel economy in comparison to the diesel engine, because diesels combine excellent low-speed tractability with fuel-efficient cruising.

Bigger Trucks Need Diesel

Heavier vehicles are well-suited for a diesel engine, and that includes all Hino models.  Heavy-duty pickups can seat anywhere from three to six people, depending on whether you choose a regular, extended or crew-cab model. Diesel engines can get up to 25% to 30% more mileage than a gasoline engine can, and this is crucial to those late-night hauls out on the road. It’s also one of the most efficient and energy-dense fuels, which means you won’t have to make as many stops to fill up, especially when you’ve got a schedule to stick to.

Despite many still believing that diesels are reserved for working vehicles, diesel-powered vehicles are fully equipped with modern safety features like antilock brakes, front-seat side airbags, full-length side curtain airbags and stability control. Many Hino models are also now offering back-up cameras and parking aids for additional safety measures.
